Composition : Metered dose Glyceryl Trinitrate 0.4mg Spray.
Indications : Acute angina pectoris. Prevention of the anginal attack by administering the drug before physical
exercise. Adjuvant therapy in emergency cases of acute left ventricular failure.
Dosage and administration : By each pressing 0.4mg of Glyceryl Trinitrate, in the form of spray, is released from the container. At the onset of the attack: one or two sprays should be applied sublingually, then the mouth should be closed. If necessary, three sprays may be used but not more than 3 sprays at any one time.
For prophylaxis: one to two sprays (0.4mg-0.8mg) immediately prior to an angina inducing event. Or, as directed by the registered physician.
Contraindications : Hypersensitivity to nitrates, Hypotensive shock, Narrow angle glaucoma, Severe anaemia, Cerebral haemorrhage and Brain trauma. Mitral stenosis, Angina caused by hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
Side effects :Taste disturbance (metallic taste),headache, postural hypotension, flushing and palpitations. These are usually mild and disappear within a few minutes.
Precautions : In case of severe renal or hepatic impairment, the administration should be carried out with great care. During its administration alcohol consumption is forbidden. It must not be administered during smoking or at naked flame.
Pregnancy and lactation :
There are no specific data available on the use of Glyceryl Trinitrate in human pregnancy. So, Glyceryl Trinitrate should be used during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. Pregnancy Category C by FDA.
Drug interactions : Alcohol may potentiate the hypotensive effects of Glyceryl Trinitrate. Nidocard may be employed in conjunction with other nitrate containing products, but care should be taken to avoid excessive total intake.
